Update: Back to the Blog

Hi folks it’s Retro Dee and I’m happy to announce that my family and I are home (for now) after a 5-day evacuation from our home due to the California Wildfires. This is the second time in 2 years that we were evacuated from our house. The first time, we were in grave danger of losing our family home. This time, the house was not as seriously threatened, but the emotional stress and trauma is still evident.

In addition to the 200,000 people evacuated, as many as 17 counties in Northern California had their power shut off during the windstorm, leaving much of Northern California in the dark. It was a real mess, to say the least, and the worst part is wondering if/when it will happen again.

Critical Fire Weather Season is not over yet. Dry, windy conditions have turned the entire state of California into a tinderbox in the last few years. There are several reasons for the elevated danger which I won’t get into here. However, let’s just say that these terrible conditions could have been avoided, if the right steps were taken by the right people.

I don’t want to dwell on bad experiences. My belief system entails pushing past the negative and trying to derive as much happiness out of life as possible. I would not be so obsessed (for lack of a better word) with the 1950’s era if I weren’t the kind of person who appreciates a positive, idealistic world. So with that said, I will try to carry on with my blog with as much normalcy as I can, despite the chaos that has arisen around me within the last month.

For the lovely Fall month of November, I have some fashion posts planned. I’ll be blogging about some great retro red lipsticks and other classic fall fashion staples such as plaid. I’ll also be blogging about my favorite topic: MUSIC. I’ll be doing another monthly CD review and at least one other post dealing with Rock N Roll.

And, of course, we ALL need to remember to vote daily in The Grooveyard Great 88. The Great 88 turns 8 this year and this survey has been the highlight of my fall and winter ever since last year. It’s sort of my answer to Fantasy Football, except I don’t bet anything on it. 🙂

I was thinking of doing a recipe post for Thanksgiving, but let’s face it, folks… Retro Dee is not the best cook. Despite my Italian heritage and love for the 1950’s, I’m just not real good in the kitchen! However, I have been able to turn out a few good pies and other goodies, so you just never know.

Finally for this update I’d like to give a very special thanks to my readers and friends who have supported me during this time. Please stay tuned as I approach my second year as a contributor on The Grooveyard web site. The Grooveyard is the greatest oldies show I’ve ever listened to, hosted by D.J. Alan Seltzer. I’ve had so much fun this year and look forward to more.
