Hi folks, it’s Retro Dee and I want to tell you all about my favorite music survey!
It’s called The Great 88 and it’s an annual part of my favorite radio show The Grooveyard hosted by D.J. Alan Seltzer on WCWP, a public radio station out of Long Island University.
This year’s survey is extra special because it’s the 8th year of The Great 88 on 88.1 FM!
Gee whiz, that’s a lot of 8’s!
And seriously? It’s got me like Agnes waiting for the Fairy Princess in Despicable Me 2:

…In other words, super excited.
I’m really still a “newbie” to this experience, as this is my second year participating. But I’ll attempt to explain the way this extensive survey works:
The preliminary rounds began back in September. There were initially 9 categories:
1955 (and before)
1956
1957
1958
1959
1960
1961
1962, and finally,
1963
Listeners could vote daily for up to 10 songs in each category. The results were posted as each section closed.
But the most exciting part is still to come:
Starting November 12, you can vote daily in the Final Round which includes 3 more surveys:
1957 and before
1958 – 1960
1961 – 1963
The three Final Round categories will allow listeners to vote for up to 15 songs.
Voting in the Great 88 Finals is intense, but it’s a lot more fun than college finals!
AND!
On December 28, 2019 the results of the survey will be revealed! D.J. Alan Seltzer will host a 5-hour long show, counting down all 88 songs in the order of which they were voted for by listeners.
But you can only get your songs to the top, if you VOTE NOW!
Trust me, it will be fun. I had a great time last year, and the show this year will be just as amazing, I’m sure!
You can listen to The Grooveyard each Saturday night (7 PM ET, 6 Central and 4PM Pacific) by clicking the 88.1 FM link on wcwp.org or via the TuneIn app. or the 88.1 FM button on the WCWP app for Android or iPhones.
The schedule for some of the upcoming shows may be changed due to the sports broadcasting at LIU, so you’ll want to make sure you stay up to date on the changes by following the web site. You can go straight to the Follow Page HERE.
Well all right! The Great 88 is on it’s way, just like Santa, only it rocks way more.
No offense though, Santa, if you’re reading. 🙂
