My Writing Talent
My writing talent is I’m weird, so I incorporate all these weird thoughts into my writing. My blog is like “The Rachel Maddow Show” since it takes the long way around to get to the point. This is probably not what most people would consider talent, but at least it makes me somewhat unique. I strive to entertain in my writing, even if the only one I end up entertaining is myself!
My Answers to the Questions asked by My Nominee
ALEX: Where do you draw the inspiration for writing?
RETRO DEE: I don’t know. I thought it was the 50’s. I thought it was fashion. I thought it was Buddy Holly. But it’s really not those things. I just like to write. When I feel excited about something and I want to express myself, I want to write. I want to share my excitement with others. Sometimes, I write for myself only, if I get an idea. I just need to feel like writing and the words somehow come together.
ALEX: Is there a book or story that you’ve read and thought to yourself: “I wish I could write like this”?
RETRO DEE: I wish I could do descriptive writing in a fictional format. An example of two authors who are great descriptive writers are Daphne du Maurier and J.R.R. Tolkien. It would be cool if I could write like they did. I’m okay at writing in the way that teaches the reader about a topic. I can write a decent short story about an experience I had. I can even write great dialog in play writing format. But I can’t write descriptive fiction. I don’t even know where to start.
ALEX: What is the best piece of advice you ever received?
RETRO DEE: That would probably have to be “Happiness is not something you pursue, it is constant” – which basically means that you have to find happiness in the here and now, every day, and not strive for it as an end goal. If you make it an end goal, you might never get there.
