Hello everyone and Welcome to another installment of “Collecting 1950’s”
I’m Retro Dee and today we’ll be taking a look at what might seem more like home decor than a collection, but that depends strictly on how you look at it!
Signs are a great way to display your love for the 1950’s era. You can collect signs that are either true vintage or reproductions, however true vintage signs will most likely carry a hefty price tag.
I decided to decorate my living space with a few signs that pay tribute to the 1950’s era without breaking the bank. Instead of true vintage signs, I chose some retro-styled signs to honor the era:
The first sign I ever bought was a bit obvious, but fun none-the-less. Here’s your typical “Lost in the 50’s” tin sign with a boomerang and sputniks:
Next, I chose this “Rock n Roll” Ave sign to put over my doorway. It really brightens up the room while proclaiming my love for early Rock n Roll.
The next sign I chose had to be a Chevy sign, of course! The art work depicts the Chevrolet Bel Air (I think 1956, I’m terrible identifying cars by exact year) and it’s conveniently parked in front of a Drive-In theater. I put this sign above another doorway, but in a future room I might make it more “front and center”. The tin sign has 4 holes which make it easy to tack up anywhere.
Of course, I had to get a sign that pays a no-nonsense homage to early Rock N Roll and the Fender Stratocaster does just that. Played by Buddy Holly and Ritchie Valens, the Fender Stratocaster is one of the most iconic instruments of the time. This sign was offered as a tribute to Fender’s 60th anniversary in 2014, however it is still being produced and I purchased mine in 2017.
Okay, you’re probably wondering what all that dangling stuff is under the sign. Those are my necklaces. There are 3 hook sets (kittens, a fairy and more kittens) and that’s where I hang some of my costume jewelry. Just goes to show, you can have all your favorite things on display with a little creativity and a few nails and screws.
Last but not least is a small Coca-Cola reproduction advertisement sign. This was a gift from two of my favorite people! It adds a great vintage vibe to the wall near my vanity. I’m not sure what year this ad was from, but it’s remarkably retro!
Well that’s it for now. Thanks for reading. I hope you enjoyed this post!
